Energy drinks usually contain between 6-242 milligrams of caffeine. In comparison, one cup of coffee has 100 milligrams of caffeine and a coke contains 35 milligrams. Product testing on energy drinks has shown that the caffeine content of energy drinks often exceeds what their label says.

Are energy drinks dangerous? Multiple studies have linked energy drinks to heart attacks, heart rhythm problems (dysrhythmias), and anxiety. There have been deaths associated with energy drinks. Energy drinks cause over 20,000 Emergency Department visits a year!
There are no studies that demonstrate that consuming energy drinks improves physical or mental performance compared to drinking a standard caffeinated beverage such as a cup of coffee.
