A human nutrition professor, Mark Haub, kept telling his class that it is “calories in, calories out” that matter for weight loss. But the class did not believe him. They thought you have to eat certain foods to lose weight.
So to prove his point, Professor Haub went on a Twinkie diet for 10 weeks. He ate Twinkies but limited his calories to no more than 1800 calories a day. He also snacked on Doritos and Oreos, but never exceeded the 1800 calorie limit.
The result? Professor Haub lost 27 pounds in 10 weeks! He does not recommend the diet, but wanted to prove the point that weight loss is a matter of math, and if less calories are consumed then burned, weight loss will result.
Interestingly, Professor Haub’s good cholesterol (HDL) increased on this diet, his bad cholesterol (LDL) decreased, and his triglycerides also decreased as a result of the Twinkie diet.
