Happy heart day!

The heart shape has been used to represent love since the 15th century.  Philosophers believed the heart was the base of all human passions and emotions.  The heart symbol with the arrow through it started from Greek mythology with Cupid, the God of love who carried a bow and arrow.

The human heart beats about 100,000 times a day, sending 2,000 gallons of blood pumping through the body.  In a lifetime, the heart will beat 2.5 billion times.

Laughing increases blood flow through the heart by 20 percent!

The average pulse for a man is 70 beats per minute, and 78 beats per minute for a woman.

The heart sends blood through 60,000 miles of blood vessels that feed our organs and tissues. But it only takes 20 seconds to circulate the blood through the entire human body!
