There are many causes of kidney failure. The most common causes of chronic kidney failure are diabetes and hypertension.
What other things are bad for our kidneys and can cause them to fail?
- Overusing pain medicines such as NSAIDS (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen).
- Eating too much meat and processed meats. Large quantities of animal protein can be harmful to the kidneys.
- Obesity. The kidneys have to work harder in obese individuals, and the increased filtration pressure on the kidneys can cause damage. Obesity also increases the risk of Type II Diabetes, which can cause kidney problems.
- Smoking can affect the blood flow to the kidneys, causing damage.
