We’ve all heard of melatonin, the natural hormone that helps us sleep. Melatonin is secreted at night by the pineal gland in our brain. Melatonin can be purchased as a sleeping pill.
We now know that melatonin is also produced in plants!
A study was performed with tart cherry juice, which is high in melatonin, and is also rich in natural anti-inflammatory compounds. The study found that a group of patients who drank cherry fell asleep faster and slept better.
Other foods with high amounts of natural melatonin include tomatoes, bananas, orange bell peppers, almonds, and raspberries.
