More than one billion people log onto their Facebook accounts every day, so it must be making them feel better, right?
A study showed that people who log onto Facebook have a sharp drop in their mood after spending time on the social media site. The study attributed the decreased mood to the feeling of wasting time and to comparing their own life to others on Facebook.
Despite that, the study found that 70% of Facebook users check their account every day, and stay logged into their feed for about 20 minutes a time.
Approximately 80% of our population is now on Facebook. Men make up 56% of Facebook users and women make up 44%.
The study did not find that going onto other internet sites decreased mood.
