Two thirds of Americans consume alcohol at least occasionally, according to a recent study.
The average American has four drinks per week.
The most popular drink is beer, with 39 % of drinkers stating that is their preferred drink. Wine came in second at 35 %, and 22 % said they mostly consume hard liquor.
Male drinkers had 6.2 drinks a week on average and women had 2.2 drinks per week.
In the study, 12 % said they had eight or more drinks per week, and 22 % of drinkers said they sometimes drink too much, which is up from 17 % the prior year.
The average American spends about $40 a week on alcohol, or about $2000 a year.
