“If you swallow gum it will stay in your stomach for 7 years”. False. It passes through the digestive system and passes with bowel movements.
“You lose most of your body heat through your head.” False. You lose about 10% of body heat through your head.
“If you shave, the hair will grow back thicker and darker.” False. Studies have shown that when the hair grows back it is no different.
“Cracking your joints will give you arthritis.” False. There is no evidence that people who crack or pop their joints are at higher risk of arthritis.
“You will get varicose veins if you cross your legs.” False. Varicose veins are caused by genetics, pregnancy, obesity, and prolonged standing.
“We use only 10% of our brains.” False. PET scans show that we use our entire brains.
“The flu shot can cause the flu.” False. The flu shot is made from a dead virus. It cannot cause the flu.
